State might allow spearfishing for permit
A state proposal to allow spearfishing for legal-size permit could threaten the population of the popular sport fish, say members of a prominent anglers group. "Basically, the state has zero information on how many fish are in the permit population," said Aaron Adams, director of operations for the Bonefish and Tarpon Trust, based in Key Largo.

Wildlife committee to rule on hot issues
Snook, permit and coyotes are among the hot topics at this week's Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission meeting in Pensacola Beach. On Wednesday, commissioners are expected to finalize a rule prohibiting the practice of penning foxes and coyotes and allowing dogs to chase them.
